An Athens man is facing criminal charges for attempting to make a bomb in his apartment.
David Aaron Romine’s apartment at Towne View Place was inspected on Monday morning. Inside the eastside apartment, law enforcement found a metal pipe, electrical components, chemicals, wiring, an alarm clock and a pressure cooker.
The Athens-Clarke County police spokesman said he believes mental health issues may have played a role in Romine attempting to make a bomb.
Bomb disposal teams from UGA, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Army, along with an FBI agent came to the scene. However, no explosives compounds were found after a search of the apartment.
Romine is currently being held at the Clarke County Jail and his hearing will be Thursday afternoon.
