Athens-Clarke County Government Releases Qualifying Guidelines for May Elections

The Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections has released the guidelines for qualifying to run in the upcoming local election. 

 

On May 22nd, 2018, Athens-Clarke County residents will be able to vote for a new mayor, along with county commissioners, members of the board of education, and the solicitor-general. 

 

To qualify for Athens-Clarke County mayor, candidates must pay a qualifying fee of $1,350. For commissioner, the fee is $450, while for the Board of Education it is $108. The solicitor-general’s fee is $3,602.

 

If candidates cannot pay the required qualifying fee they can submit a pauper’s affidavit.

 

Candidates who want to appear on the May 22nd election ballot must file candidacy paperwork between March 5th and March 9th.
