The Super Bowl is just days away and the personal-finance website WalletHub has released its report on 2018’s Best and Worst cities for Football fans. While Green Bay Wisconsin topped the list at number one, analyst Jill Gonzalez says Athens came in among the top in medium-sized cities.

“We looked into cities for football fans, obviously with the Super Bowl right around the corner,” Gonzalez said. “So the big cities with NFL teams ranked toward the very top here, but we also ranked small and mid-size cities and Athens actually did very well in terms of the smaller cities. “Obviously we looked at collegiate football too.”

Gonzalez says the cities that did come out ahead of Athens all had professional teams, but the Classic City ranked highly in several areas.

“Just looking at things like performance over the past three seasons, minimum ticket price, stadium capacity, engagement of fans-where we know Athens is ready to represent.” So all of those things really across the board had really high numbers here. Athens is very hard to beat, 6th best for the smaller cities overall.”

Atlanta was number 11 on the list of large cities. Analysts compared more than 240 cities. To view the entire list of cities ranked, visit wallethub.com.
