After years of improving, the air quality in Athens, metro Atlanta’s and other Georgia cities has decreased slightly. That’s according new report from the American Lung Association. The organization’s “2018 State of the Air” report studied ozone and short-term particle pollution from 2014 to 2016.
In Athens, the air quality received a ‘B’ rating when it came to Ozone levels and 24-hour particle pollution. The Classic City also passed the annual particle pollution measure.
According to Georgia Health News, Georgia cities that saw an increase in the number of unhealthy air days include Macon/Warner Robins, Atlanta/Sandy Springs, and Columbus.
Those with the cleanest air in the state include Brunswick, Rome, and Savannah.
The American Lung Association has analyzed data from official air quality monitors to compile it’s “State of the Air” report for the past 19 years.
