The Athens-Clarke County Police Department says there may be more victims of a man accused of sexual assault while posing as an Uber driver.

56-year old Emerson Redd is charged with rape after a UGA student says she was assaulted while riding in a vehicle with Redd, who she thought was her Uber driver. Police spokesperson Epifanio Rodriguez is asking potential victims to come forward.

"We don't have any other victims at this point who have come forward. But we don't know if this is just the first time he's done it or if he's done it in the past. So anyone who have been a victim or something similar to this, we ask them to come forward and speak to us," said Rodriguez.

A second woman says he was inappropriately touched by Redd hours earlier in his vehicle. She was able to get take pictures before she got out.

Rodriguez says there are precautions passengers can take to avoid becoming a victim.

"We recommend that people getting in and asking to see that ID. Also remember, that a lot of the time, that you will see cell phones hooked up to the front of the car or GPS trackers. That was one of the things the second victim who reported to us what made her realize that she was not in an Uber because she didn't see any GPS  tracking machine," said Rodriguez. "Most of these apps will also tell you what type of vehicle is picking you up to make sure that the vehicle actually pulling up and picking you up is the actual vehicle."

Police say the rape happened around 3 a.m. on Friday. Redd was stopped by officer Latisha Guinn during a traffic stop.

Police are asking to call them if you have any information, or have been victimized by Redd to contact Detective Michael Poole at (706) 613-3888, ext. 794.
