ACC Government Body to Make Decision on Proposed Fast Food Restaurant Downtown

The Athens Clarke County Historic Preservation Commission is set to vote Wednesday on whether changes can be made to the outside of the building at 101 College Avenue. The site, located at the corner of College Avenue and Broad Street, will house a new Chick Fil A restaurant.

No governmental approval is required to open the Chick Fil A, but the Historic Preservation Commission does have to approve external changes to the building, because it is located in the downtown historic district.

The downtown location has been home to a number of restaurants over the decades, including the Varsity, and more recently, the chain restaurant Five Guys. The Historic Preservation Commission meets at 5:30 tomorrow in the auditorium of the governmental building at 120 West Dougherty Street in Athens.
