34 AU/UGA Medical Students Matched with Residency Programs Across the Country

Students from the joint medical partnership of Augusta University and University of Georgia gathered this past Friday to find out the next step of their medical journey – what residency programs they’ve matched with.

Every year across the country, fourth year medical students submit applications to, interview with and rank residency programs. These programs are designed to train the beginning doctors to specialize in one certain area, such as pediatrics or internal medicine. Then on the third Friday of March, the students open letters to find out which residency program they’ve matched up with.

This year, 34 students from the AU and UGA medical partnership matched to programs in 17 states and in 14 different specialties. According to the campus Dean, Shelley Nuss, 53 percent of the students are staying in the Southeast and 59 percent will be entering primary care residency programs.

2018 marks the fifth annual match day for students at the joint Augusta University and University of Georgia medical partnership.
