Athens’ January Unemployment Rate
Athens unemployment rate for January up two-tenths of a percentage point to 5.2 percent from December.
The Georgia Department of Labor released the numbers today. While seasonal fluctuations in January often result in a decrease in jobs and and increase in unemployment claims, Communications Director Sam Hall says the numbers aren’t all bad.
“The number of jobs in Athens decreased by 200, or 0.2 percent, to 93,700,” Hall said. “Job losses came mostly in local government, however, over the year, 1,600 jobs were added, a 1.7 percent growth rate.”
