Nearly a million homes and businesses in Georgia lost power after a storm blanketed the region with snow and ice, but most had power restored by this morning.
Georgia utility companies said a total of 989,400 customers lost power in the wake of the storm. About 175,000 customers were still without service Friday morning. Georgia Power said about 111,000 customers were still in the dark. Most were in east Georgia, with roughly 93,000 in and around Augusta. Georgia Power says it expects to have power restored to nearly all of its customers by late Saturday night. The state's electric membership cooperatives, or EMCs, said about 64,000 of their customers were still without power. EMC officials had restored power to more than 224,400 customers since the storm began.
