Nearly 40K Enroll in February
GEORGIA - More than 38,000 people signed up for coverage in the health insurance exchange in February. That number is slightly down from the number of enrollees in January, but still represents a 37 percent increase for Georgia.
That brings the total enrollment through february to over 139,000 people. Federal officials said the dip in enrollment was likely due to to February being much shorter than January.
North Carolina and Michigan, which have similar population sizes, have over 200,000 and over 144,000 enrollees respectively. Georgia has continued to fall behind both in recent months, but has stayed ahead of Illinois and Ohio.
The March 31st deadline to sign up in the insurance exchange is rapidly approaching. Those who remain uninsured after that date will be subject to a financial penalty.
