Bitcoins Now Accepted in Downtown Athens Shop

10 February 2014

ATHENS - Shoppers can now buy vintage clothing with the newest currency as a shop in downtown Athens embraces a digital currency revolution. Dynamite Clothing, a vintage clothing store at 143 N. Jackson St., began accepting bitcoins this year.

Bitcoins are a form of digital currency that shop owner Lori Paluck is betting will move more mainstream.

The digital currency made headlines last year for its skyrocketing values and ties to online black markets.

This new technology enables users to convert U.S. currency to bitcoins that are stored in a digital wallet. Transferring money or buying goods is a matter of scanning a QR code.

While Paluck is optimistic that her business will capitalize on bitcoin spenders, the shop still accepts U.S. dollars as well.
