Former Police Chief and Parolee Charged in Fire Station Burglary
ATHENS - A former police chief and a parolee were charged in a fire station burglary that occurred January.
The 27-year law enforcement veteran who taught numerous classes to officers from around the state was arrested Thursday afternoon in Cornelia. Access North Georgia reports that the charges include theft by receiving stolen property and obstructing or hindering law enforcement.
Also arrested in connection with the event was a parolee from Clarksville who is charged with second-degree burglary and a parole violation.
Items taken include two generators, a chainsaw, shovels, and other miscellaneous equipment.
The total value of the items taken was listed at $8,154.
At the time of his arrest, the former police chief was retired.
